Shadows in the Woods

Shadows in the Woods
This is another example of where "Gear Acquisition Syndrome" (GAS) turned out to be quite cheap. I bought a 7artisans 18mm f6.3 thin pancake lens and attached it to a Fuji X-M1 in the hope that I might have a truly pocketable camera. It's also a much cheaper option than buying a Ricoh GR or Fuji XF10!!! (See internet for details.) The permanent aperture of f6.3 is obviously a limiting factor, but in good light and with auto ISO set on the camera, there is some flexibility. The main thing however is that it's fun to use because the camera can simply be used in point and shoot mode, with focusing for the most part only needing to be set at infinity.

Anyway, here are the results of a quick 30 minute trip around Warley Woods in August 2024. Initially, I just wanted to see what photos I might find. Colour photos can be a bit strange with this lens if shot towards a light source, so I set the camera in black and white mode to see what would happen. After the initial random photos, including what is now probably my favourite "street" shot ever - of the man being pulled out of the photo by his two dogs, I noticed the shadows created by the leaves and trees, so I explored this theme a bit more.
