In November 2017 I'd marked the 30th anniversary of moving from Manchester to live and work in Birmingham. I came for a year or so, intending to move back north, but one thing led to another...and another etc. Anyway, whilst cycling home to Bearwood through an area of Edgbaston to the north of Hagley Road, I remembered that the locality could've been where I might've first lived because of the many bedsits and flats. Such areas can be characterised by looking a bit run-down with a lot of informal dumping of things like fridges, hence this series which I put together in a few minutes during my journey. As I got closer to home however, the final image of a fridge on a suburban driveway shows that it's not just "bed-sit land" that suffers from discarded stuff people no longer want. I don't think this will be a project on the scale of the mattress project. There just seemed to be quite a lot of discarded fridges on the streets all of a sudden!
